For Foreign Visitors: A Perfect One-Day Itinerary of 5 Authentic Local Restaurants in Chuncheon Featured on The Hyunmoo Plan
Jeon Hyunmu Plan 2 · Chuncheon Edition
Jeon Hyunmu Plan 2 (전현무계획2) is a beloved Korean food documentary-variety show on MBN & Channel S, airing every Friday night. In February 2025, hosts Jeon Hyunmu and Kwak Tube visited Chuncheon — famous as Korea's "Lake City" — alongside guests Kim Seong-ryeong and Choi Daniel to uncover genuinely local, off-the-tourist-track eateries. Beyond the expected dakgalbi (spicy chicken) and makguksu (buckwheat noodles), they found five remarkable hidden spots that local residents have quietly cherished for decades. This post covers all five restaurants with full address, phone, hours, nearest train station, and signature dishes — plus a recommended day-trip itinerary so you can visit them all in one go.

Gangneungjip (강릉집)
Grilled Fish Set Meal · Yoseon-dong
A beloved 40-year-old fish-based baekban (set meal) restaurant in the Yoseon-dong neighborhood of Chuncheon. Featured on Baek Jong-won's Baekban Journey and several other major Korean food programs, this homey spot gained a whole new generation of fans after appearing on Jeon Hyunmu Plan 2. The standout is the lavish spread: 14+ side dishes including grilled fish, braised burdock root, marinated crab, clear cod stew (daegu jiri), and pan-fried seasoned pork — all included with the set. Unlimited side dish refills and complimentary nurungji (scorched rice) at the end round out a deeply satisfying meal.

Jina House (진아하우스)
Retro Handmade Burger · Near Chuncheon Station
Established in 1977, Jina House is Chuncheon's longest-running handmade burger joint and sits just steps from the main train station. Its signature style is a pan-fried egg-battered patty nestled in a soft bun — deeply old-school and utterly satisfying. Guest Kim Seong-ryeong led the Jeon Hyunmu Plan 2 crew here, and the resulting "retro-chic" buzz drew swarms of younger visitors who were charmed by the nostalgic decor and time-capsule interiors. Don't overlook the jjamppong ramen — an unexpected crowd favorite that regulars say beats the burgers.

Hyunam Makguksu (현암막국수)
Dongchimi Buckwheat Noodles · Near Animation Museum
Tucked across from the Chuncheon Animation Museum along the scenic Euiam Lake road, this 40-year-old noodle shop was Kim Seong-ryeong's personal recommendation for authentic local makguksu. The dongchimi (white radish kimchi) broth is house-made and unmistakably refreshing — clean, mineral, and slightly tart. Served with buckwheat noodles of just the right chew and toasted sesame, it's the kind of bowl that makes you forget summer heat. The side dishes of pan-fried buckwheat crepes (memil jeon) and pork belly slices (pyeogyuk) are equally excellent. No MSG, just old craft.

Simin Dakgalbi (시민닭갈비)
Iron-Plate Boneless Spicy Chicken · Seoksa-dong
Recommended on the show by Alberto Mondi — Italy-born Korean TV personality and Chuncheon Honorary Ambassador — Simin Dakgalbi is a 32-year institution quietly thriving away from the crowded tourist dakgalbi strips. Located in the residential Seoksa-dong neighborhood, it draws almost exclusively local regulars. The marinade hits the sweet spot of savory, sweet, and spicy without ever going overboard. Boneless chicken is stir-fried on a flat iron plate, and the restaurant is famous for its chicken offal (daknaejang) — chewy, intensely flavored, and something you won't find at tourist-facing restaurants. Finish by adding rice and/or udon noodles to the pan to soak up every last bit of sauce.

Sigansokeui Jayu (시간속의자유)
"Freedom in Time" — Scorched-Rice Retro Pub · Jungang-ro
Translating roughly as "Freedom in Time," this retro-aesthetic pub near Chuncheon's Gongjicheon park is the kind of place you'd never find without a local tip. What makes it unique: a traditional Korean beer hall that also serves a 13-dish nurungji (scorched rice) set — hearty home-cooking fare paired with drinks, a combination rarely seen anywhere else. The show featured Korean actors Song Joong-ki and Ko Kyung-pyo as regulars who reportedly stop here after filming in the Chuncheon area. The direct-flame grilled eels (kkomeongeo) are a must-add. Old vinyl records, vintage movie posters, and warm amber lighting create an unforgettable atmosphere.
